Cameron Stewart, a Senior Theatre Major from Dalton Ga, will be traveling and moving to New York City this summer to pursue his theatre dream. He plans to be on the Broadway stage within the next five to eight years or sooner if God plans for that to happen for him.

Stewart, who has been in 14 shows since his time at Shorter says that the department has prepare him in so many ways to pursue a career in the field of professional theatre. “I have learned many acting techniques, and my repertoire for songs that I can use for auditions is now vast,” Stewart said. “My last four years have been a wonderful experience! I have learned exactly what I need to prepare myself for the professional acting world.”

Although Stewart will dearly miss Shorter, he will carry many memories and experiences from Shorter University. He has had a lot of great memorable performances at Shorter and he accounts that it is hard for him to pick one particular one that sticks out to him. He says, “They’ve all been great,” but after great thought he chose Seussical.

“I loved Seussical because of the child like nature of it, I love The Merchant of Venice because of the history behind it, I loved Life’s a Dream because of my 20 minute speech that I had to give, and I loved Showboat because of its history and all the fun times I had with my classmates for one last show.”

Stewart’s interest began when he started theatre through his church doing nativity and passion plays, but when he was in middle school his interest grew. Also, when he experienced Broadway for the first time he instantly knew what he wanted to do. He says, “Broadway became my dream.”

Although Stewart is moving on to many exciting things, he will never forget the many friendships and background information that he has learned to help propel his dream. We hope to see him on Broadway one day.

A classmate of Stewart’s, Victoria Henson, a Senior Vocal Performance major from Douglasville, Ga says that “Cameron is one of the most amazing people I have ever had the pleasure to work with. He always keeps a positive attitude backstage and is more than willing to help anyone who needs it. Through the years I have worked with him, I would say he is the most dedicated and influential mentors that have existed in the theater department. Watching him as a performer is surreal! The amount of dedication and attention to detail that he puts into his study is so impressive. To watch his versatility of emotions he brings to each of his characters is inspiring and he is still able to keep up with school is something that makes me so jealous.”
