Honors society ushers in new wave of members

The Georgia Theta Chapter of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society inducted the latest round of members to this prestigious society on Oct. 24. The 19 students  inducted were: Josh Adams, of Trenton, Ga.; Tatiana Allen, of Cordova, Tenn.; Christine Barnes, of Marietta, Ga.; Lindsey Blackstone, of Perham, Maine; Cheyanne Burt, of Cartersville, Ga.; Rachel Butler, of Eva, Ala.; Megan Camp, of Breman, Ga.; Kari Chambers, of Fayetteville, Ga.; Morgan Clemones, of Silver Creek, Ga.; Jason Kinsey, of Hiram, Ga.; Courtney Knight, of Dallas, Ga.; Morgan Lee, of Dallas, Ga.; Jana Nelson, of Cedar Bluff, Ala.; Megan Peng, of Acworth, Ga.; Ruthie Phillips, of Hiram, Ga.; Brice Prather, of LaGrange, Ga.; Stephanie Rowles, of Adairsville, Ga.; Stefanie Starkey, of Summerville, Ga.; and Austin Wofford, of Cedar Bluff, Ala.

Alpha Chi represents the top 10 percent of juniors and seniors across the different degrees at Shorter.

“It is a really big honor and very rewarding in the fact that I maintained a high academic integrity and standard through my junior year,” said Rachel Butler, on of this years inductees.

“My favorite part of the ceremony was getting my cord for graduation,” said Butler

The students were honored with their pins and cords that they will wear during graduation once they finihs their four years of undergraduate work.

Alpha Chi also introduced six new officers during the ceremony. arah Geil, of Kennesaw, Ga., is serving as president. Morgan Morris, of Snellville, Ga., was named vice president. Isabella Baldacci, of Norfolk, Neb., was named secretary, and Alexis Gorman, of Fort Payne, Ala., serves as the honor society’s treasurer. Emily Kendall, of Summerville, Ga., and Taylor Proctor, of Calhoun, Ga., were named directors.

These students represent the best that Shorter has to offer in each field of study and continue to bless the campus with their high standards and “making scholarship effective for good” which is the Alpha Chi motto according to Alpha Chi faculty sponsor Dr. Kathi Vosevich.

Shorter’s Alpha Chi chapter has been a Star Chapter for five years in a row. This award honors chapters for a number of criteria including inducting members locally, attending and presenting at the annual convention, nominating at least one representative for a national Alpha Chi fellowship or scholarship, and sponsoring on-campus programs that promote scholarship.
