Ever had the urge, on a Friday morning while walking to or from class, to eat a Chick-Fil-A chicken biscuit? The student-athletic committee (SAAC) has created a beneficial opportunity to fulfill that urge. SAAC representatives will be selling Chick-Fli-A chicken biscuits for $3 in the front circle or the FSU from 7:30-10:30 a.m. There is an email sent out before every Friday, letting students and faculty know about the upcoming event.
If you don’t want to walk to the front circle, the SAAC members will also deliver it to your room, class, car, etc. To do this contact the SAAC faculty sponsor, Jordan Green via email jgreen@shorter.edu.
The SAAC members are selling biscuits as a fundraiser to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which helps grants wishes to children that are diagnosed with life-altering medical conditions. All the proceeds from the biscuit sales will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
February 6, 2015 was the first Friday SAAC started selling Chick-Fil-A biscuits. To their surprise, they raised more money than they thought they would raise. SAAC’s goal is to raise more money than they raised last year, which was $1,000. So far they have raised $350.
According to the NCAA, every Division II University is required to have SAAC at their institution. At Shorter, SACC consists of two representatives from every sport.
The mission of the NCAA Division II SAAC is “to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity for all student-athletes; protecting student-athlete welfare; and fostering a positive student-athlete image.”
Since beginning its alliance with Make-A-Wish in 2003, Division II has raised more than $3 million toward granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. These wishes can serve as a game changer in children’s fights against their illnesses, helping them feel better, and in some cases even get better.
