Zombies are on the loose in Rome with a direct threat to Broad Street in downtown.
On Oct. 26 beginning at 5:30, the annual Zombie run/walk will take place starting at Bridge Point Plaza where a “safe zone” will be set up trying to contain all of the zombies that have escaped from Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The run/walk is to benefit the recreational programs in Rome.
To participate in the 5k run, one has to pay $25, while the two-mile health walk is $20.
Each participant running is given a flag belt that he or she they will carry with him or her for the event, and the zombies will try to take the flags from the runners.
The event consists of a block party, the 5k or health walk, costume contests, live music, fireworks and prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age category for men and women participants. Zombies who capture the most flags from the runners also get a prize.
You can volunteer to be a zombie for free or sign up to be a runner or walker.
